Where to Find Western Dressing

The Wild West.

As American as John Wayne and Apple Pie. It can be as over the top fantastical as the Wild Wild West (steampunk anyone?!?) or as gritty as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

There are countless productions that need the look of the Untamed West, from your run-of-the-mill Western to a contemporary but remote Mexican village. But what prop houses do you get these items from, and where can you film them?

Where to Find Gambling Equipment, Dressing and Dealers

Everyone who is anyone is there. Glasses are overflowing with champagne from bottles worth more than the average income of the lower classes in his district. Girls, music and gambling abound. Poker tables, blackjack, roulette, the works.

The shady mayor is running for reelection. He’s a shoe-in, no one dares to run against him. That’s why undercover cop Hugh Watcherself is here. The mayor is always good to those that are in his posse and Hugh finally got an in. All of the mayor’s cronies get on to the “fundraising” event boat to start off his campaign with a bang. Hopefully no one suspects Detective Watcherself…

L. A. Party Works – Casino Night

Everyone knows gambling equipment. Heck most people have stepped into at least one casino at some point (others quite a few casinos in the last week). It makes sense that casinos should have all the necessary gizmos, gadgets and accessories but where does a production or event get them?

It’s just one dang scene/event so no one needs to buy them! Why take a gamble with a random company when you can just ask Debbies Book?

Blacklist Sony LogoIf you’ve heard of Sony Pictures Studios, you’ve probably heard of their hit TV show Blacklist – and if you haven’t heard of Sony Pictures, you may have found this blog by mistake and it’s your first time on what we call “The Internet.” Welcome! And yes, everything you read on said “Internet” is true. I know, crazy huh?

In the show Blacklist criminal mastermind Red Redding twists the countries crime fighting agents to do his bidding using his cunning and influence. It is one of those dramas that reveal, in this case, Sony Pictures’ incredible resources as a studio, which is nothing new. I really like Blacklist is my point.

The wonderful thing about studio prop houses is that you can come across what is quickly becoming a century’s worth of cinematic history, and then proceed to rent it. A couple of years ago Sony moved their Prop House to Culver City, conveniently right off of the freeway. Friendly staff, a great drapery department in the back and costuming right around the corner, and a long list of prop rentals are awaiting you there.

Be like Red Redding and take advantage of the resources available to you at Sony Pictures Studios for the betterment of the world.

Yes… that’s it… the betterment of the wooooorld.

Sony Picture Studios

Sony Pictures, located on Washington Blvd., has production offices and various sizes of sound stages for rent, along with set lighting, fabrication shop, production sound, post production facilities and more, conveniently located on the lot.

But for easy access to its prop and costume rentals, Sony has relocated its warehouse to W. Slauson Ave. in Culver City. Check in at the desk, and one of the staff will guide you through the newly arranged warehouse with its upgraded, extensive and newly automated inventory. You’ll find loads of unique props and interesting set dressing. The selection of contemporary clothes and ethnic and period costumes is huge, so the staff can help you find what suits your production (no pun intended).

There’s also a special property and wardrobe rental service for film students and schools, so be sure to let them know is this applies to you.
