The Set Decorators’ Society of America had their 22nd annual luncheon last Sunday. Those of us lucky enough to have not signed up for the LA Marathon (phew) gathered at the Biltmore Hotel to schmooze, munch on some food, and celebrate excellence in the Set Decorating field (and the ever-necessary prop houses who make their jobs possible).
It was nice to see Audrey Blasdel-Goddard [left]. Audrey has been an important force behind so many Set Decorator careers and was awarded this year’s ‘Earl Cooperman Lifetime Achievement Award’. It was not only given to her for the large body of work she has done but for the amazing strides towards women’s equality she has made in the industry.
I also had a great time seeing Bob Zilliox [right], one of the few who spearheaded the humble beginnings of the SDSA who I hadn’t seen in some time.
The SDSA Hall of Fame awards went to Linda Montana at I.S.S. and Ronnie Wexler and John Rettino at Warner Bros, all of whom got standing ovations from the audience. Many of us will miss their familiar faces greeting us at the docks as they move on towards other things.
Additional congratulations to the other award winners, including our very own FormDecor Furniture Rental, for their ‘Business Member of the Year’ recognition!
