17th Edition – Debbies Book Retrospective

COVER17mini2002–2003. There weren’t any major changes to the book in 2002-03, but it was an historical year at the Oscars as two black actors took top honors.

As the Enron and Catholic Church scandals rocked the news cycle, rock ‘n’ roll reality show The Osbournes debuted on MTV, and the search for a singing superstar began with the premiere of American Idol. A Beautiful Mind took home the Oscar for Best Picture, and Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Eminem’s 8 Mile hit the theatres.

16th Edition – Debbies Book Retrospective

COVER16mini2001–2002. We made radical changes to the Debbies Book format and printed two versions: the old classic size and a new large format 3-ring binder version. Our users made it clear that they preferred the new large format, and that has been the book format ever since.

There were so many life-changing events going on in our world: the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, the U.S. invaded Afghanistan, an anthrax scare, and the debate over stem cell research. Meanwhile, the first Blackberry smartphone arrived and George Harrison left us. The Producers grabbed 12 trophies at the Tony’s, and Harry Potter worked his magic in the theatres, along with Spider–Man, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Rush Hour 2. For TV fare we had Alias, 24, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and HBO’s Six Feet Under.

Mannequin Gallery

show_photo-1When I think of mannequins I’m reminded of that Twilight Zone episode “The After Hours” where the department store mannequins come to life. But that’s not what I want to talk about…

Let’s talk about the The Mannequin Gallery. All mannequins, all the time. A member of the Set Decorators of America, the Mannequin Gallery sells, rents, repairs and custom builds for TV and film productions, trade shows, print or whatever your need might be.

The folks there are artists with an inventory of over 1,000 mannequins and forms. You’ll find human forms of all shapes, sizes and color. Or if it’s body parts you need, you’ll find torsos, heads, hands and legs in the ‘graveyard.’ There are custom figures as wild as your imagination and crash test dummies too. Now I have that song “Mmm Mmm Mmm” by the Crash Test Dummies in my head. Help me—I’m in the Twilight Zone!

Inner Gardens Nursery Destroyed in Major Commercial Building Fire

InnerGardensLogoMany of you may know the nursery on Jefferson Blvd Inner Gardens. A great spot for high end gardening supplies, pottery, and of course; plants.

According to KTTV’s website around 7:30pm on January 16 a fire was reported coming out of the top of the building. Thankfully no one was physically injured and the fire did not spread but our support goes to the owner of Inner Gardens.

We hope their recovery as they look to rebuild their entire Jefferson Showroom is quick and they bounce back soon.
